The Similkameen Artist Residency was the ideal environment to develop a new series of monotypes in a quiet and meditative setting. After months of managing sciatic pain, the residency offered me a much-needed opportunity to retreat, reset, and reconnect with my creative practice. The healing landscape of the Similkameen Valley and the powerful Keremeos River brought me strength, resilience, and renewed inspiration. I experimented with new materials and media outside of my usual practice, which expanded my artistic vocabulary. The chance to connect with mentors and participate in gallery visits gave the residency a meaningful bridge to the contemporary art world; something many other programs do not offer. I am deeply grateful for this experience and carry its lessons with me into my work moving forward.
