“ I did not expect the Similkameen Artist Residency to provide me with such a deep state of calm. I spent September in the Similkameen Valley and the summer sunshine and warmth extended into the Fall. Escaping city life truly was the reset that I needed in my artistic journey and I felt a shift in my routine soon after arriving. Exploring the area and the neighbouring towns was a sustainable source of curiosity, I moved slower and thought deeper, allowing different questions to form about my practice and about how sound affects the body. I explored new areas of research and followed new ideas for how to construct and install my work. I worked in the largest studio I have ever had access to and was able to scale up my projects in a way that surprised me. The house itself is full of warmth and charm and I found good friends in this space. After only one month I feel inspired and supported by a community of artists who I am glad to have shared such a special experience with.”
