Folding with Feeling Workshop
September 21, 2025
We had the absolute pleasure of having our September Artist-in-Residence, Amanda Penney, host her Folding With Feeling Workshop at the Apple House in the Grist Mill’s Apple House!
Amanda Joan Penney (she/her) is a visual artist, mother, and arts administrator. Bookbinding, printmaking and soft sculpture are the primary focus of her art practice these days. She uses her art practice as a means to explore the importance of meaningful connection, shared experiences, health and its connection to nature, and creative energy as a pathway to healing. Amanda is currently managing a family of four along with the Eastern Edge artist-run centre in St. John’s, NL. Born in St. Anthony, NL, she has moved around her whole life, with deep connections to Labrador, and Calgary, AB. Amanda is a big fan of street art and public art spaces. She is open and honest about her victories and challenges with motherhood, anxiety, and late diagnosed ADHD. She is driven to experience and create art with her community every chance she gets.
Each attendant got supplies provided to create their own ‘Lotus Fold’ Art Book. It was a wonderful opportunity for our AiR to showcase their practice and connect community members while doing an activity together!
